Optional insurance TEAs and IESP-TEAs

In Greece, at the beginning of 2021, there are twenty (21) Optional Occupational Insurance Funds, pursuant to Articles 7 and 8 of Law 3029/2002 (Government Gazette, Series I, No 160), i.e. the founding law of the institution of Occupational Insurance. These Funds are active in the public sector, in the field of shipping, insurance, banking and the stock market sector, but also relate to more specific sectors, such as economists, geotechnics, police officers/firefighters/port officers, employees in public transport, etc. At the same time, new IESP-TEA are being established, a fact that reflects the strength of the institution in our country in recent years.

The purpose of Optional Occupational Insurance Funds is to provide the insured and the beneficiaries with occupational insurance protection, in addition to that provided by compulsory social insurance, to cover risks of old age, death, disability, accident, illness, and dismissal etc. The benefit involves payment of a lump sum, however, in some Funds, the corresponding amount can also be paid periodically (pension).
